Chemically and botanically, Kratom is similar in structure to Yohimbe, Coffee, and Cats Claw. Mitragyna grows in the tropical and sub-tropical regions of Africa and Asia. Some species reach heights of up to 100ft tall. Kratom was used traditionally in Thailand by the working class. It helped them to sustain energy while working for a long period of time without eating. It is in the family Rubicacea (the coffee family) and is also related to cat's claw. There are two distinguishable types of Kratom leaves, identified by the vein/stem/petiole. There are green-veined (white-veined) and red-veined leaves. The green-veined leaves are supposed to have a higher percentage and different combination of alkaloids. Traditionally In Thailand, some users prefer a mixture of both red and green veined leaves followed by green or red veined leaves alone. Some harvesters of Kratom have reported red and green veins growing on the same trees at different times. A lot of the Kratom traditionally used in Thailand was consumed by chewing the leaves. Other traditional methods of consumption included eating the fresh leaves, followed by drinking a hot beverage. In Thailand leaves were also made into tea by boiling the leaves in water and then drinking the liquid, or boiling the liquid (after leaf removed) until all the water evaporated and the product became a crude resin. |
